Physics Matters (5/6): Medical Physics

12 November, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

- Free

The fifth in a weekly series of early evening talks for sixth-formers. Physics Matters brings together people using Physics to make a difference in the world.
This week, Dr Michael Drinnan from Newcastle University and the Freeman Hospital talks Medical Physics.
Seeing inside the body
We’re all familiar with x-rays. But that’s only one example of how physics can help us see what’s going on inside the human body. Physics has much more to offer. In this talk you’ll see how thermal images, buckets of water and an X-Box Kinect can help us diagnose what’s wrong with our patients.
Dr Michael Drinnan is Consultant Physicist & Head of Clinical Engineering with the Regional Medical Physics Department, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Students attending all five sessions will be offered the opportunity to visit Kielder Observatory for an evening observing session. .
