How many female physicists and chemists can you name? Not many?
What about Wikipedia, surely that will have lots of information about female physicists and chemists? Sadly, not as much as you would hope. Only 15.5% of Wikipedia articles on people are about women. Given that most teachers now use online resources to plan lessons for their classrooms, this disparity is reinforcing the lack of representation and the dangerous perception that there are few women in science.
BUT, anyone can edit wikipedia and make things better.
Join Dr Jess Wade (Imperial College, London) and Alice White (Wikimedian in residence) to find out how to edit Wikipedia. You’ll research female physicists and chemists using archived journals, books and science magazines. Then you’ll edit wikipedia to upload the information for everyone to find.
This event is for girls between ages of 14 – 18. No previous experience of editing wikipedia needed.
