CLiC- Careers Learning in Chemistry

Increasing pupils’ awareness of, and pathways to, careers in Chemistry

About CLiC

CLiC is an education project funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry and delivered by Northumbria University over 2 years between January 2022 and December 2023. CLIC offers NUSTEM partner schools a programme of chemistry-focused, careers-linked activities for pupils currently in Year 7 delivered as part of their school science lessons.

Below are a few of the activities proposed for this project:

  • Ask Me Anything’ style assemblies with working chemists to help students see the human side of people with chemistry careers, and also the utility of those careers.
  • Chemist of the Week Programme. A five-week teacher-mediated activity which uses postcards to introduce the personal characteristics of people who work in chemistry-related jobs. This will help students to think about the characteristics that they share with the Chemistry professional and to develop their own chemistry-identity.
  • Classroom worksheets based on a national curriculum KS3 topic and set in an industrial or research context. These worksheets will showcase local companies and introduce young people to career opportunities in their local area.

These activities are being co-create with colleagues from the Department of Applied Sciences and science teachers from local schools.

We will be uploading snippets of the materials create below.
