Today Year 2 became naval architects and designed and made boats. To try our activity at home using a piece of tin foil and some coins, go to our NUSTEM at home foil boats page.
Hello Usworth Colliery, we’re NUSTEM. We’re based at Northumbria University, and we work across the region supporting children, families and teachers in exploring science, technology, engineering and maths. We’re particularly keen to help people recognise that careers in these STEM subjects are available to them.
On this page you’ll find a summary of the things we’ve done with your school, and links to follow-up activities you can do at home.
Our work with Usworth Colliery is part of the Exploring Extreme Environments project, funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
This afternoon Y3 became geologists and investigated meteorites. If you would like to try some STEM activities at home, go to https://nustem.uk/stem-at-home/
Today Year 5 have been finding out about what happens underneath the ice in Antarctica. They then wrote their own poem about this. To Find out more and read some poems by children in other schools, visit our Underneath the Ice website page. You may even find their poems there soon!
