Hello Chopwell, we’re NUSTEM. We’re based at Northumbria University, and we work across the region supporting children, families and teachers in exploring science, technology, engineering and maths. We’re particularly keen to help people recognise that careers in these STEM subjects are available to them.
On this page you’ll find a summary of the things we’ve done with your school, and links to follow-up activities you can do at home.
Our work with Chopwell is part of the Exploring Extreme Environments project, funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
NUSTEM is an outreach group based at Northumbria University. We believe that STEM should be accessible to everyone, for study and for pleasure, from early years, through school, to employment, and beyond. We support children, families and teachers to feel more confident that a career in STEM is for ‘people like them’.
This afternoon Year 6 have been finding out about what happens underneath the ice in Antarctica. They then wrote their own poem about this. To Find out more and read some poems by children in other schools, visit our Underneath the Ice website page. You may even find their poems there soon!
This morning Reception children and their families took a trip to Mars with Little E the robot rover from the book “Are we nearly there yet?”. When they got there they designed the Mars landscape and built Mars rover vehicles to explore this new world.
