Burradon Community Primary School

Hello Burradon, we’re NUSTEM. We’re based at Northumbria University, and we work across the region supporting children, families and teachers in exploring science, technology, engineering and maths. We’re particularly keen to help people recognise that careers in these STEM subjects are available to them.

On this page you’ll find a summary of the things we’ve done with your school, and links to follow-up activities you can do at home.

3rd December: Systems Engineer Family Workshop

This evening our Key Stage 2 families became systems engineers, designing, creating, testing and improving marble runs so that their marbles rolled for as long as possible. To find out more about systems engineers and to discover similar activities that you can do at home, click here.

29 November: Magnets, Geoglogy and Medical Physics

The Reception children were exploring magnets and you can find out more about what they did here.

Burradon’s Y3s were learning about the work of a geologist and were observing and testing meteorites (rocks from space), you can find out more here.

Finally, we worked with the Y6 to explore inside the human body using medical physics, you can find more information about the workshop here.

30th January: Meteorites!

Thanks for having us Year 3 – we enjoyed looking at rocks with you. If you’d like your world to rock some more (see what we… oh, you noticed that, huh? Not as clever as we thought? Drat…)

Anyway: see our Meteorites activity page for a recap, and to explore craters from your sofa.
