Chillingham Road Primary School

Hello Chillingham Road, we’re NUSTEM. We’re based at Northumbria University, and we work across the region supporting children, families and teachers in exploring science, technology, engineering and maths. We’re particularly keen to help people recognise that careers in these STEM subjects are available to them.

Wednesday 11th March A busy afternoon at Chillingham Road!

This afternoon Year 1 became botanists and investigated Venus Fly Traps. To find out more about botany, click here.

Then Year 4 became materials scientists, testing the properties of different materials and deciding what they could be used for. Click here to find out what materials scientists do and for some fun activities you can do at home.

After school, Key Stage 2 families worked together to design, build and test wind turbine blades to see which was most effective. For more activities to try at home, click here.

Tuesday 10th March Reception Bubbles and Key Stage 1 Family Systems Engineers

This afternoon the Reception children had a great time investigating bubbles. Can you ask them if they can remember the shapes of the bubbles that were created by different bubble wands? To find out more and try bubble activities at home, click here.

After school KS1 families became systems engineers, and designed, created, tested and improved marble runs. Click here for more activities to try at home.

Tuesday 11th February Reception Magnets

Today Reception Class learned all about magnetic and non-magnetic materials by investigating magnets. To find out more, click here.

Nursery children had fun investigating dinosaurs and reading dinosaur stories.
