Wednesday 11th March A busy afternoon at Chillingham Road!

This afternoon Year 1 became botanists and investigated Venus Fly Traps. To find out more about botany, click here.

Then Year 4 became materials scientists, testing the properties of different materials and deciding what they could be used for. Click here to find out what materials scientists do and for some fun activities you can do at home.

After school, Key Stage 2 families worked together to design, build and test wind turbine blades to see which was most effective. For more activities to try at home, click here.

Tuesday 10th March Reception Bubbles and Key Stage 1 Family Systems Engineers

This afternoon the Reception children had a great time investigating bubbles. Can you ask them if they can remember the shapes of the bubbles that were created by different bubble wands? To find out more and try bubble activities at home, click here.

After school KS1 families became systems engineers, and designed, created, tested and improved marble runs. Click here for more activities to try at home.

Tuesday 11th February Reception Magnets

Today Reception Class learned all about magnetic and non-magnetic materials by investigating magnets. To find out more, click here.

Nursery children had fun investigating dinosaurs and reading dinosaur stories.

Thursday 21st November Year 2 Materials Scientists

Today Year 2 visited the Think Lab to become materials scientists. They tested the properties of different materials and decided what they could be used for. Click here to find out what materials scientists do and for some fun activities you can do at home.

Wednesday 20th November Year 5 Astronomers

This morning Year 5 became astronomers and found out about the development of the telescope throughout history and women in astronomy.  They also discovered what stars are made from and how astronomers know this by analysing the light from the stars. To find out more about astronomy and to try some activities at home, click here.

Tuesday 22nd October Year 3 Geologists

This morning, Year 3 became geologists, observing and investigating meteorites which are rocks from space. To find out more about geology, click here.

5th December: Geology, Medical Physics and Family Systems Engineers

Today Year 3 have been geologists, observing and testing meteorites (rocks from space). To find out more click here.

Year 5 became medical physicists and found out how to use physics and technology to look inside the human body. Click here to discover more about medical physics.

After school, families became systems engineers and designed, created, tested and improved marble runs that kept their marbles rolling for the longest time. Click here to discover similar activities to try at home.

Chillingham Road Engineering Week

Wow, what a week Dan and I have had. Between us we’ve seen the whole school. On Monday, we explored magnetism with Reception and then on the afternoon Year 1 became Naval Architects, designing and building boats. Find out more by clicking here.

We came back on Thursday to work with Y5 where we built some incredible structure out of kNex. Our civil engineering skills went, almost literally, through the roof!

Finally on Friday we spent the morning with Y3 exploring the world of Aeronautical Engineering. Dans put together a page related to flight which you can find here.

15 June: Botany and Naval Architecture

We’ve had another busy morning at Chillingham Road Primary School today!

Magnifying flytrap-1650thinYear 1 explored floating and sinking with the 3 billy goats gruff – you can find out what they did here.

Year 2 became brilliant botanists – you can find out what they did here.

13 May: Civil Engineering and Explore You Universe

This morning I’ve been at Chillingham Road Primary School exploring the universe with Y3 – want to find out a little about what we did click here. The video above is taken using an Infrared Camera, you can see year 3’s body heat!

We’ve also been building bridges in Y4 working as Civil Engineers!

I’m back in Chillingham Road again this evening for a Maker Workshop – I hope to see some of you there!
