Pop-Sci @ The Forum and The Beacon

It’s been a busy half-term for Think Physics; we were welcomed back to The Beacon in North Shields and The Forum in Wallsend for more science pop-up shop fun.

Families of children from local schools were invited to join us for a day of science based activities: we were swamped! Big thanks for coming along. We handled meteorites, took infrared selfies, made a lot of funny noises, investigated UV light, explored the pinwheel galaxy, designed planets, and made a gigantic marble run (…and that was all before lunch!)

Families were also take on a tour of the universe in our Explore Your Universe show. The whole thing was captured by our Think Physics Twitter Photo Booth. And also by our rather less exciting human photographer – gallery below.

Sci-Pop @ The Forum Wallsend

Seven members of Think Physics crew descended on The Forum Shopping Centre, Wallsend yesterday for our second Science Pop-up Shop.

Families of children from local schools were invited to join us for a day of science based activities. Over the course of the day we saw over 100 families – thanks for coming along. We handled meteorites, took infrared selfies, built stomp rockets, piloted robots, explored the pinwheel galaxy, designed planets and flew hoop gliders (and that was all before lunch!) Families were also take on a tour of the universe in our Explore Your Universe show.

Sci-Pop. Think Physics visits North Shields

Think Physics had a great day at the Beacon Centre in North Shields for our very first pop-up shop, Sci-Pop.

Over 200 people attended our family science activities, and had a great time learning about sound by making  ‘noisy lollies’, wind by making Think Physics windmills, and electricity by making their own light up circuit cards. We were also talking about body heat and taking infrared selfies, talking about engineering on our marble-bounce activity and getting up close with biology with our giant 3D bug pictures.

Explore your Universe Family Show

70 children and their grown-ups attended our Explore your Universe Family Show – a science spectacular from atoms to astrophysics. We learnt about the eclipse, plasma, how light travels, static electricity and how to make your hair stand on end. We even took a look at some meteorites which are 4.6 billion years old!

Design a Planet Competition Winners

We ran a drawing competition during the day, and asked entrants to design a planet that would be suitable for life. We had some amazing entries, which made it very difficult to narrow down our favourites. The winning entries are from Dylan, Madeline and Arenus. Each of you will receive a gyroscope.
