22nd and 23rd June Systems Engineers and Mechanical Engineers

Years 1,2, 4 and 5 have been using marble runs this week. Year 1 and 2 became systems engineers and investigated how to put difference pieces together to become a single marble run. Years 4 and 5 used the same equipment to become mechanical engineers and investigated how to use their knowledge of forces to solve a problem. Visit our NUSTEM at home marble run page to find out how to build a marble run at home using cardboard and tape.

20th and 21st June EYFS Marine Engineers

This week children in Reception and Nursery have become marine engineers and investigated floating and sinking. To try a simple floating and sinking activity at home, using only tin foil and coins, visit our NUSTEM at home Foil Boats page.

Friday 17th June Year 6 Astronomers

This morning Year 6 became astronomers and found out about the development of the telescope throughout history as well as about the role of women in astronomy. They discovered what stars are made from and how astronomers know this by analysing the light they produce. To find out more about astronomy and to try some activities at home, click here.

17th June Year 2 Systems Engineers

Today Year 2 became systems engineers and built amazing marble runs. Visit our NUSTEM at home marble run page to find out how to build a marble run at home using cardboard and tape.

Thursday 16th June Year 2 Materials Scientists

materials

Today Year 2 children became materials scientists and investigated materials using weight, electricity and magnets. Why not investigate how strong the materials in your home are by trying our NUSTEM at home Bridge Building activity?

Tuesday 14th June Year 3 Geologists

Chondritic (stony) meteorite found in 2005 in North-West Africa.

Today it was Year 3’s turn to become geologists and investigate meteorites. For more activities to try at home, go to our meteor crater activity.

Monday 13th June EYFS Marine Engineers

Today children in Reception and Nursery became marine engineers and investigated floating and sinking. To try a simple floating and sinking activity at home, using only tin foil and coins, visit our NUSTEM at home Foil Boats page.

9th June Year 1 Systems Engineers

Today Year 1 became systems engineers and built amazing marble runs this morning. Visit our NUSTEM at home marble run page to find out how to build a marble run at home using cardboard and tape.

Thursday 5th May Year 4 Geologists

Iron meteorite from Chaco, Argentina. One of the ‘Campo del Cielo’ fragments first found in 1576.

Today Year 4 became geologists and investigated meteorites which are rocks from space. For more activities to try at home, go to our meteor crater activity.

Monday 6th and Wednesday 8th June EYFS bubbles

The NUSTEM team have been in school to work with Nursery children (Monday) and Reception children (Wednesday) investigating different ways to blow bubbles. Why not try our non-messy indoor bubbles at home? You only need a teaspoon of washing up liquid and sugar and a straw to blow bubbles with. Go to our STEM at home bubbles page to find out more.
