6th December: Magnets

Today the reception children have been exploring magnets. To find more about what they did, click here.

5th December: Geology, Medical Physics and Family Systems Engineers

Today Year 3 have been geologists, observing and testing meteorites (rocks from space). To find out more click here.

Year 5 became medical physicists and found out how to use physics and technology to look inside the human body. Click here to discover more about medical physics.

After school, families became systems engineers and designed, created, tested and improved marble runs that kept their marbles rolling for the longest time. Click here to discover similar activities to try at home.

5th December: Medical Physics

This morning Year 6 became medical physicists and discovered how to use physics and technology to look inside the human body. To find out more click here.

4th December: Geology and Family Systems Engineering

Today Year 4 were geologists, observing and testing meteorites (rocks from space). To find out more about geology, click here.

After school, families became systems engineers. They designed, built, tested and improved marble runs until the marble rolled for as long as possible. Click here to find out more about systems engineers and to discover similar activities you can try out at home.

3rd December: Systems Engineer Family Workshop

This evening our Key Stage 2 families became systems engineers, designing, creating, testing and improving marble runs so that their marbles rolled for as long as possible. To find out more about systems engineers and to discover similar activities that you can do at home, click here.

30th November: Magnets, Geology and Medical Physics

The reception children were exploring magnets today. Find out more about what they did by clicking here.

Year 4 were Geologists and were observing and testing meteorites (rocks from space). Find out more about the work geologists do here.

Year 5 had a medical physics workshop and discovered how physics and technology can be used to look inside the human body. Click here to find out more about medical physicists.

29 November: Magnets, Geoglogy and Medical Physics

The Reception children were exploring magnets and you can find out more about what they did here.

Burradon’s Y3s were learning about the work of a geologist and were observing and testing meteorites (rocks from space), you can find out more here.

Finally, we worked with the Y6 to explore inside the human body using medical physics, you can find more information about the workshop here.

12 June: Geology

Big thanks for having us over this afternoon, it’s always a pleasure. Today:

  • Year 3 explored meteorites. Remind yourselves of the rocks you held and explore crates from the comfort of your sofa at our meteorites activity page.
  • KS1 Families built catapults with Luke and Mel after school.

Enjoy exploring those links, and we’ll see you again soon!

20 March: The Solar Physicist

This morning, I’ve been in Rainbird Academy working with the Y5s and 6s. We’ve been learning about the science of the Sun and have been talking about the work of Solar Physicists.

Here are some images from our infrared camera.

Barley Mow STEM Week

Wow – what a brilliant week NUSTEM have had at Barley Mow. We’ve been so impressed the all the budding scientists and engineers we’ve met.

Here’s a run-down of what we got up to…

Monday – Coding robots with Y1, meteorite handling with Y4 and Marine Engineering with Y5.

Wednesday – Botany with Y2, Medical Physics with Y6 and a KS2 Family Workshop.

Thursday – Marine engineering with Y3 and a KS2 Family Workshop.

Thanks again for everyone involved, we’ll be back in your school soon!
