This afternoon is was time for Year 4/5 to become mechanical engineers to investigate marble runs and forces. To create your own marble run or watch the chain reaction machine video again, visit out STEM at home Marble Runs page.

Monday 25th April Year 6 Mechanical Engineers and Friday 29th April Year 4 Mechanical Engineers

Marble Run Close UpIt is great to be back face to face in New Delaval! On Monday Year 6 became mechanical engineers and built marble runs and on Friday Year 4 are becoming mechanical engineers too. They investigated the forces used and tried to slow the marble down. Visit our NUSTEM at home marble run page to find out how to build a marble run at home using cardboard and tape.

Thursday 7th April – Year 3 Geologists and Year 1 Materials Scientists

Iron meteorite from Chaco, Argentina. One of the ‘Campo del Cielo’ fragments first found in 1576.

Today Year 3 became geologists and investigated meteorites, while Year 1 became materials scientists and discovered the different properties of materials. For more activities to try at home, go to our meteor crater activity or our bridge building activity.

Wednesday 6th April – Year 5 and 6 Environmental Planners

Today Year 5 and 6 became environmental planners and used old maps of the local area to discover land uses in the past, then planned coastal defences for the future. Go to our Environmental Planners page to find out more!

Wednesday 30th March Year 1 materials scientists and Year 6 Mechanical Engineers

materialsThis morning, Year 1 became materials scientists, testing a variety of materials for their different properties and finding uses for them. We have a couple of  activities that you might want to try that use materials you would find in your home.

Bridge building challenge– use card, pens, rulers- whatever you can find to build a the strongest bridge

Build a nest – can you use materials from around your home to build a nest that will keep an egg safe?

This afternoon, Year 6 became mechanical engineers and built marble runs. They investigated the forces used and tried to slow the marble down. Visit our NUSTEM at home marble run page to find out how to build a marble run at home using cardboard and tape.
